In fairness, we have the benefit of almost fifty years of hindsight. Back then the thinking was along the lines of "This Star War thing at the cinema is bound to peter out soon, we've got at best six months to cash in on the scifi craze before we get cancelled." Its one of the reasons they called in 2000AD, because in 1977 it sounded super futuristic "and its not like we're going to still be doing this in the ACTUAL year two thousand ho ho ho"
