Americans are terrified of cooking things in real fat. They'll use any alternative goyslop for 'heart health' (actual food just in moderation is basically communism) and so the idea of just basting the top with fat is insane to them. On top of that their eggs are so low quality that even slightly runny yolks risk infection at a far higher rate than civilised nations. Basically just think of american food culture as the combination of everything being mass produced slop and terrible hygiene standards.
