the only thing I never liked about fo4 was the institute and its nonsensical motivations. I'd remove all kellogg segments from the game and re-write the institute into a fanatical transhumanist AI-worshiping cyborg cult instead which would make the synths make sense. when you get in they'd immediately reveal that it's been 50 years or whatever and all talk about what a great a job shaun is doing as leader and you'd hear his voice over the loudspeakers giving announcements and see his face speaking on terminals around the complex, but never actually meet him, and the twist at the end would be that he had been integrated into the AI overlord that they all worship because something something pure pre-war brain required, and you could choose to end his suffering or with some skill checks free him and he'd become a companion.
