That being said, commissioning is itself a good job. The pay is pretty damn good (especially at O-3+), and you’re entitled to all the same benefits as the enlistoids. Healthcare, homeloan, GI Bill. No college fund for your son? You can give him your GI Bill after I think 7 years or something.
Your brother could commission, do 4 years, and then try to get his good job back at the end. He might even become a National Guard officer or something and pull like an extra $1,000 a drill. It’s not like he’s going to ruin his life being an officer. An O-1 makes more money than the median American.
