i only spent a week there so can't comment too much, but it was fun. lots of English speakers, especially in Seoul. i don't think they'll care that you're ugly, but i wouldn't recommend living there. if you're just a tourist who wants a week in Asia where you speak only English, it's not a bad pick

the streets? not in my experience. I've seen much more trash in Atlanta, Milwaukee, New Orleans, etc. I've seen more street sweepers here than any city in the US.
if you don't like cigarettes, though, do not come. almost everyone smokes and there's very few ashtrays on the streets, so they'll just throw them everywhere. big cities are very polluted with cigarette smoke
