It's a common phenomenon that military planners and politicians get very antsy when they start buying too much of their defense procurement from one country even if it's objectively the best choice. Some would say it's wise to diversify your logistics and insure yourself against shortages and diplomatic spats, but if Australia somehow starts having issues with the US and not France or Germany, or the US is somehow not capable of filling orders anymore and they are, then the world is so tits up you're on your own.
