You don't need sex appeal, you can be cool or cute or funny - I don't mean it like that, I mean you can be Cyberfunk, Hat in Time or Orbo's Odyssey - but you do need to pick a direction.
You need some appeal. The easiest way is to just go with an art style that you personally like a lot and would happily pay money for.
