This was my favorite platformer of the past decade but it's very easy to see why it flopped. It was retarded to shadowdrop a game for $30 that had no immediate appeal or hype without an easily marketable hook. Hifi Rush is "Rhythm DMC" with good character designs. Penny's is Umihara Kawase in 3D with Sonic momentum and the whatever the fuck that character design is

Appealing character design doesn't just mean a character you want to fuck. It just means a character that isn't ugly and makes you feel something positive about them, whether that be thinking they're cool or sexy or badass or edgy in the good way. Basically when you're done with your character, ask if this character would be pleasant to the eyes of most people or not.

Yeah I actually think her design is fine in the hand drawn cutscenes, it makes it more obvious that she's supposed to be based on a yoyo herself. And it's fine when you're actually playing because the camera is zoomed out most of the time. But games have to sell, and that model doesn't sell games

You need some appeal. The easiest way is to just go with an art style that you personally like a lot and would happily pay money for.

It hurts because like I said I did LOVE the game, but it's definitely one of those "the haters have many valid points" situations. I was also annoyed that they didn't patch a few glitches that could be used to skip entire levels which became the only way to crack the top 100 on any of the time trials. The first week or so where people were grinding out tech and making the most of all of the movement systems were really special and they just completely gutted that
