Typically during the aforementioned therapy styles you'll be working with imaginary people who are deeply connected to yourself - a family member, a younger version of yourself, a personification of some fear or desire, etc. - but we don't have that luxury here, so the preliminary step is to get to know who we will be dealing with a bit. This doesn't have to be perfect, but we want at least some background information to make sure things flow easier. For this we will just write. You can write a bit of prose about them, like a short story or introduction, or you can be more methodical, and come up with a list of questions. Here are some basic questions you should ask:
- What does she look like, how does she dress, etc. etc.
- What are some manerisms which are aparent in her
- What does she struggle with and find easy to do
- What does she like or dislike
- What is her general outlook of the world
- How is her relationship with her family
- Etc.
Remember you aren't supposed to know this person 100% (you don't even know yourself 100%), we just want a base to start with, so sticking to 6-10 questions is the ideal. Don't go overboard, and don't overthink the answers. The less you know about someone, the more you'll get to learn when you're together.
