You could do it to socialize with the people there, though personally I find that there's few people on that place that I really want to spend time with.
Not that the vast majority are even that bad people, they're not, but most don't tend to have all that much interesting to say, and when that gets dotted by the absolute fucking idiots and the real assholes, it doesn't make for a very compelling climate overall. To me, anyway.
Site culture there also doesn't particularly tolerate the type of shittalking and sensibilities you'd see really anywhere on 4chan, so if you do want to spend time there, mind your manners/"manners" and lingo, I don't always say everything I actually think when I do visit.
That said, there are a fair few people on there who REALLY know their shit about editing Doom, and who will gladly help you and teach you how to get things done or how to fix problems. There's shit I can talk about Doomworld, but they do have that going for it, and I'm personally legit thankful for that, even as a bystander I can learn from those interchanges. Some of those people are even cool dudes, but even some of the assholes are 'scholarly' in that sense.
Doomworld is also one of the biggest and most visible hubs for Dooming, so if you want to publish Doom content and have people actually see it, it's your go-to. Maybe you don't like the people there at all, but publishing there will still help your work get around, and it's probably the biggest reason of all to use it.
