When Star Wars was released in Japan it became on the most influential sci-fi fiction of all times and changed anime and manga forever. This was in 1977 and almost nobody among the hundred of milions of Japanese who watched it sought the subbed version, and this rang true for 30+ years.
By your metric Star Wars has never been influential outside of the USA.
