Well first of all riding is incredibly fun especially here in California. All your senses are heightened and you're not distracted by anything else. You're in a flow state. Also, you slowly start building up your skills and always progressing which I think is important thing to have in a hobby.
Riding got me into /out/. I never knew I was surrounded by so much beauty until I started riding. Discovered so many cool places and started hiking because of it. It also got me into /trv/. I then rode in places like Vietnam and Indonesia. Btw, traveling is the best way to meet new ppl like in hostels because everyone is traveling solo and they are like you, just want to meet others. It's so easy to make friends even for a crippling shy person like myself.

Yes, it could be a win win if you're suicidal I guess but maybe you'll learn that life is truly worth living. Btw, I strongly recommend taking the MSF course. Probably saved my life desu.
