FYI he does eventually confirm it was K. Rool was going after. The one problem is that the timeline doesn't really add up, Cranky implies that DK Isle's banana hoard was stolen while DK was away on Ingot Isle but by the sound of things it seems that K. Rool and the Kremlings were trapped within the Planet Core for a long time, possibly a meta in-universe explanation for why they were gone from the games so long.
