In 40k that was the case, but ever since Megaboss got a Bloodletter skull and the Skulls kit included Bloodletters and Plaguebearers it's safe to say they retconed demons physical bodies to be physical
However i think it's safe to assume a demon, being Warp born, isn't all that used to its physical form and can get a new body before returning to the materium, even if it takes some time.
