Super Metroid is overrated. It's not a bad game, but it feels like Super Metroid is popularly known as “the holy game of the SNES” and a lot of you will repeat it ad nauseam without further critical thinking. I understand that its atmosphere and soundtrack has a lot of personality, but its controls are obtuse, the map design goes to shit in Maridia and the sprite work in general is not *that* good. I really, really want to love Super Metroid, it feels like I *should* love it even, but it just doesn't get there no matter how much I replay it.
