I've read the books and I know the modern world setting (generally speaking, I haven't read side content that elaborates on it).
That doesn't explain the obscurantism to me, I just don't buy it. I can close my eyes to it to enjoy the story, that's not a problem.
My problem is the idea that a game like Yiggdrasil can exist in real life (without the VR tech), when the exploration inherent to it cannot be replicated, when things get documented in wikies, killing the magic of it.
After all the point of this thread is to talk about a game like that, not an excuse to talk about Overlord.
