Yep, that's it. I think we're in either a partial AR or full VR world, like the Matrix. More or less. There are several permutations possible going back to ancient times. Like Selene and Endymion, Lilith and Adam, Morrigan iirc could create illusions.
All you would need is a superstructure that's monitoring your pattern of attention and sensory inputs, maybe subvocalizations also. And it could play off whatever you assume to be true, what you find engaging and believeable, and create quite a reality labyrinth for you. It would check its core metrics (believeability, engagement, long term sustainability in loosh production) and play off anything you can conceive of to the max.
Perhaps in some places there are overlap points where people's bubble realities download into each other. You'd need to introduce new informaton in the mirror cube periodically to keep it fresh. But otherwise it would be largely personalized. This is much easier to load balance and far lower complexity if you were to keep everyone in the pods or get them only using constrained interfaces like the internet or VR.
