I see where you're coming from, but that's why I used the Gamma as an example, he is also a robot created by Eggman that got fleshed out and bonded with a hero character, of course Gamma was a playable character. Another example is Metal Sonic in Heroes, he gets two lines explaining himself, but the Sonic and friends still come away from that understanding what his deal was.
