I figure Kishimoto probably realized that X-rays and 360 vision aren't that impressive once characters start throwing around chakra bombs and summoning crazy monsters. What's funny is that down the line, Demon Slayer really showed how useful such a thing is without all the bells and whistles that the Sharingan has.
