no resources, just how i did it.
learn about real and fictional magic systems and yoink the cool ideas. be as esoteric and idiosyncratic as you want but remember to actually have a plan to represent your ideas through mechanics. for example, i wanted my magic to be uncontested (only caster rolls) when used on inanimate objects, but contested (caster and target roll against each other) when used on something alive. i eventually settled on the soul inside of creatures being inherently stubborn and resistant to change, with more powerful souls getting more dice to resist with. this logically means creatures without souls or very weak ones being susceptible to magic.
basically i started with what i wanted and worked backwards to justify it.

look up videos and books about different mythologies online and listen to them. don't be afraid to be weird. irl religions are full of wacky shit that don't fit their popular image. for example these could be wrong lol Catholics believe in Transubstantiation which means the bread and wine eaten during a Eucharist literally turns into the flesh and blood of Christ when consumed. jesus made a whip and beat the shit out of some people shitting up a church which doesn't fit the common, almost hippy image jesus has now. use of magic to control and command demons was practiced by some Christians and wasn't believed to be a sin for a time.
