Digital goods don't "wear out" so if they become unusable it's because it was done by design. Developers kill those games to push people to buy new titles.
A lot of gaming industry depends of rehashed slop but now there's something you can do about it
Enter Stop Killing Games, an EU based petition to EU parliament. Once the initiative passes, the EU parliament will have to discuss the issue of game developers prematurely killing video games.
Petition also suggests forcing game developers to implement End of Life measures for their product, such as releasing tools necessary for game fans to keep the game going even after support officially ends.
The game industry is fighting against this tooth and nail because it will prevent them from selling basically same game forever with slight tweaks (Call of Duty, FIFA, Madden, etc etc)
