I get you. I actually gravitated to Lego City because of the Lego City Undercover video game. It felt like a big adventure in the city. I made my own sigfig to be my self-insert to experience the idea of the city. While I'm not a huge fan of license stuff, I do get it when it suits something I need. Like I got the Stormtrooper mech because by changing out the tile on the chest and the pieces on the arms from white to yellow, it's suddenly a Lego space security mech.
I even come up with other characters to have these adventures with. Like Sasha Fury, distant relation to Rex Fury, and Professor Stan Leroy, a Stan Lee knockoff.
But it is more fun to have unique Lego themes that are like an open canvas for us to play in and fill in the details. It's like Lego sets up the scaffolding and we fill in the rest.
