there aren't that many gadgets and you can usually get by with a loadout of sky flyer, hoop, slingshot, and stun rod. switch out the least pertinent tool when you need to use the net/RC car/radar. the loadout i gave is not necessarily what you would use as your default if you were speedrunning, but you gotta get through the game normally first (also the first ape escape game is horrible to speedrun because of insane RNG variability in one of the final bosses that can add literal minutes to your run if you are unlucky).
the camera is the thing that probably takes the most getting used to, but it is pretty easy once you get the hang of hitting L1 to center the camera behind the direction spike is facing.
but the games have some of the best music ever and i love all the personalities that they give all the stupid little monkeys. nothing quite hit like it and i am so mad that ape escape never caught on quite like other mascots did.
