the series went silent because they wanted to do an original IP, there were a few in development before they settled on RAGE
the series wasn't even dead for longer than 4 years, Doom 4 was announced in 2008

Go check doomworld in 2004, people weren't particularly upset about it. Everyone knew it was going to be survival horror themed. The only thing I noticed was people hated the cliffhanger ending
