The Connections v1-v3 have the same core caretaking gameplay, but v1 is usually seen as significantly worse than the v2 and v3, since there's far less content which includes less characters (v2 and v3 triple the roster, with v3 having all of v1's adults and v2 having the entire v1 cast barring the babies), less games (only two compared to v2's 4 and v3's 6/7), no special foods and money/shop system, and items require connecting with another device to unlock instead of being bought from the shop, and they're far more restrictive too since only specific characters get specific items and you lose them when starting a new generation.
You're probably best off getting the v3 remake, or a v2 if you're dead set on v1's tone since it has the old roster.
