Perhaps one of only reasons that an incumbent administration being under scandal in any country not costing them an election may be the fact that they would be an authoritarian dictatorship that either has absolute rule over its people or exercises similar rule through voter intimidation. According to the same episode I mentioned, the princess does not have absolute power over her country and is basically beholden to Equestria’s parliament, who could side against her at any time.
