Because either way its about the relationship between Madoka and Homura, romantic or not, and it would be judged that way. At this point it's too late to pussy out of a yuri resolution. They might want to do more with the franchise in future, it's completely reasonable, but there should be a satisfying conclusion for Madoka and Homura.
