USA collapsed after US military tried to overthrown president John G. Crommelin as he was a danger to their much more powerful military-industrial complex.

USSR collapsed after several years of violent power struggle between Stalin's successors, with eventual uprisings being unified under KONR-ROVS coalition pushing Soviets out of European Russia.
5-Why are there cults?
Counter-culture to traditional conservative values in the world was much more radical and violent, giving a significant popularity boost to various new age religious and spiritual groups.

Operation Unthinkable caused two major affects on western Europe:
A) Population living in western Europe became far more anti-communist, partly even seeing German Nazis as a wrong enemy and that Hitler was right about USSR. This was a major boost for radical right wing groups.
B) During the Operation Unthinkable almost all major fascist-nazi collaborationist militas were recruited to fight the Soviets, leading to their partial rehabilitation. Without major denazification of Germany, many former SS officers and Nazi influenced military figures still play the role in the government.
