I'm playing in a LOTR-based campaign as a character from Angmar. I decided to recycle Amarthiel (a corrupted elf who used to belong to the brotherhood of ring-makers and ended up serving Angmar) from LOTRO to my own ends. I have made her a formidable and cold spy master who doesn't need much violence to achieve her goals. While I began as a calculating and ice-cold witch, I'm adding little echoes of her pre-fall nature into her interaction with other characters that can be read as subtle manipulation or glimpses of what she was once (the way she touches, looks at, and treats a particular subordinate). My intention is to make it ambiguous for now, perhaps with her denying it all as a mere manipulation after centuries of darkness, betrayal, and pain. I have to be careful to not weaken her. I'm not sure if what she feels should be more like master-student, mother-adoptive daughter, or give it a romantic subtext under layers of self-denial and manipulation.
