I have no way to prove it, but given how this happened not long before the movie came out and how similar they look, I suspect that George Lucas got inspiration for the Darth Maul character (looks wise at the very least) from how Ricardo painted himself in this suicide video. This happened in 96 and Phantom Menace came out, what, like a year or two later?

It could just be a coincidence though. Like I said I can't prove it. Unless George Lucas himself ever admitted it was the inspiration, but this might not be something he would readily admit to.
