My Mom lived in Kyoto for a year as an exchange student in the 70’s. She’s also a 6’1” Viking woman so she was stopped constantly. She said living in Japan was miserable because someone practicing their English could see her walking from like a mile away and would ‘GOMENASAI’ themselves up to her to practice legit every hour.
Japs post all this shit about how annoying foreigners are but they will stop at nothing if you have something they want in their country because you’re a guest.
My Mom would come home during the first week after staying out late to the grandma at her house still keeping the onsen warm and no one else could take a bath until my Mom did.
TLDR; Japan’s culture is oppressive and meant to take advantage of you while also treating you like a king as long as you play along.
