I think I'm realizing the best way to play Exe is to never use the R1 or R2 of Suncatcher. Just attack normally with a weapon of choice, swap to Suncatcher when you can since it auto deflects when you swap as you're getting attacked, and only use the L2 when it's glowing, swapping back to your regular weapon when it's done.
