Sunk Cost Fallacy
basically he misunderstood the initiative and thought he could appear to be smart by pointing out that requiring games to keep up their servers perpetually would be harmful to small devs, which to be fair it kinda would have been
except of course, this is never what the initiative wanted
But because he's a class A narcissist he couldn't just admit he was wrong and move on, instead he doubled down and rather than admit he was wrong he used his (at that time considerable) influence to try and kill the initiative which kinda worked for him
Until people caught on to his shenanigans and because they actually read what SKG was, and that as consumer it's 100% in your benefit, he quickly became the villain of the whole initiative and people started signing up just to spite him causing it to be successful
Now at this point he could have again called it quits, quietly congratulated them on their success and admitted he might have overlooked things
Except of course, he's a class A narcissist so he tripled down and started trying to kill the initiative after it succeeded and actively went as far as personal attacks on everyone involved
Which he really should fucking not have because he has a lot more skeletons in his closet than anyone involved in SKG, so now we're here, he's bound himself to a cause and is unable to turn back going down with the ship
And all you can say is: good riddance
