There's a lot of mesoamerican influence in the lore this time too. Lots of feathered snake imagery associated with the nightlord and Quetzocoatl is the god of the dawn and dusk in mesoamerican faith structures.
There's even a concept in mesoamerican cultures called the Nahaulti. It is a person that is bonded with an animal spirit to give them a 'completeness' which we see happening in elden ring (and other souls games) pretty consistently.

Most of it is lost in translation as it is refined into a fantasy concept but the parallels are staggering.
