I think marine melee weapons should look disproportionately large because they are disproportionately strong. Full size rifles are like machine pistols in their hards, and they can carry guns that would normally be emplaced.
Thus it makes sense they can wield in one hand weapons that would take a normal man both arms to lift, let alone swing.
