But somewhere along the way, Vinke turned against the Republic he helped inspire. Convinced that President-Marshal Kemerskai had betrayed the revolution, Vinke called for a second revolt, not from foreign tyrants, but from within. Now, his reputation is forever tarnished has he attempted unsuccessfully to lead a revolt against the Republic.
Thousands of extremist republicangriffs had flocked to the North to join Vinke and his movement. When they arrived, they were given guns but no training. Elan and republican idealism alone would stave off the military, it was suggested. In reality, when the Republican Guard arrived with tanks, artillery, and thousands of well-trained soldiers, the traitors stood no chance. They were cut down immediately.
