Does copying make a shitty piece of art? It can. You can also do it skillfully, at which point people don't even recognize it as "copying" but as "homage" or "influenced by" or "referneced" even if you fucking traced as part of it.
The cypherpunks of the 2000s effectively won, it's just taking time for everything to fall into place.
