MMOs are a modern retelling of the book of Genesis.
The first one you play is total paradise, you're discovering shit, learning the ropes, shamelessly interacting with everyone with a glint in your eye.
It's great.
But then you start getting good, you start minmaxing, you start noticing the patterns in behaviors that piss you off, you start wanting to optimize your time on the game as much as possible.
At this point you've tasted the fruit of knowledge and can never go back.
You know too much, the feelings of starting out your first MMO will never be back and you take that resentment out on the game.
You didn't change, the game did, and that's why you don't enjoy it anymore.
But that's not the truth - FATEs were always useless, endgame was always barren, jobs were always braindead - you just didn't know better at the time.
You can never go back to Eden.
