I’d argue that one of the key strengths of Areiths death that supersedes any knowledge that someone may have before hand is its impact on the broader narrative. I feel like Gustaves death only works if you don’t see it coming because he dies so early. His existence within the narrative only becomes more apparent after all is said and done because when you finally understand everything then you obviously know him being alive would have created a third ending. And since EX33 is supposed to be misery porn they couldn’t have that. However even when you know Aerith will die there’s still a tension and unease because it’s like stepping outside hoping that this won’t be the moment when a random meteor strikes you. You know it’s coming but you don’t know when. I think that’s what makes her death timeless.
