I have no experience in gamedev but if Kenshi 2 looks like anything except "Mostly similar to Kenshi 1 but an archipelago for added boat mechanics," their key devs are inferior to me.

They can even move some of the landmasses of pic rel around to make it more fun, just keep the general shape and some hints and precursor factions being similar so fans know what's up.
