I wish I could find the comment I saw earlier today from a modder explaining in detail why OpenMW needed massive work to work with MWSE.
It's not enough to just add scripting, they need to add MWSE. Basic scripting isn't the same as MWSE that has been perfected over the last 15 years and has hundreds if not thousands of mods already made for it which work beautifully.

I guess they could potentially make it possible to port MWSE into whatever new scripting language they add to OpenMW (maybe, possibly, who knows when). That would be the best case scenario I guess but it's still a longshot and nothing will change the fact that over a decade of mods have been created that do not work with OpenMW and those mods are the most impactful and gameplay altering mods available. They're the ones that actually make Morrowind into the greatest RPG of all time.

like this mod that makes lights into something similar to Skyrim, ones that float or stick to the wall. A simple mod.....yet it's still only possible with MWSE not OpenMW. Like why the fuck would you ever choose the gimped version of the game?? What is the benefit???
