You’re not entirely wrong. Many people call Gnosticism Jewish without recognizing its true roots in platonic and Neoplatonic philosophy. The way is see it Gnosticism is just a more recent label for the the hidden religion, a cult of higher knowledge that has existed in many forms throughout the ages and which is the seed of most religion and mythology, which becomes intentionally or unintentionally corrupted and watered down over time.
