Reminds me of a fanfiction I liked. A Hoenn game novelization with protagonist May, one of the better and slightly more ambitious ones out there. Brendan has a major role in it too as her travel partner, there's shipping and their relationship dynamic is spicy. 40k words in and it hasn't been updated in a year (because of course)
