In Madoka Magica, the girls are manipulated by Kyubey into trading their souls for power. The girls are motivated by stuff like wanting to protect people they care about, and they think being magical girls will help them do that. On Kyubey's side his secret motivation is protecting the universe from entropy, and with a goal so big he has no reason to give a shit if a bunch of naive magical girls suffer and die horribly in the process.

So swap Kyubey for Giratina, the magical girls with Mays, and their motives with ones unique to each of their individual personalities.

Regarding the lore of the "Ingrained" creepypasta, what would be worse:

The second one. In the first option, the fact humans no longer exist is kind of negated by the fact (You) the reader exist to acknowledge May's suffering, and there's just nowhere to go from there. The second one seems more tragic because not only do humans exist, they don't know May is down there, so they'll probably go back to polluting the ocean with sewage and oil spills for her to enjoy. Which might actually twist her soul and make her hate humanity for abandoning her, opening up the tragedy to becoming a potential future revenge quest if you want to go there. Alternatively, maybe someone eventually does find evidence of May having existed or surviving, not long before May herself somehow starts making herself known to civilization again.

Well, you could explore what effects her predicament would have on her mind. From a philosophical standpoint, it would be about how beauty gets corrupted and how it tries to withstand this deterioration:

>How would her personality change? Would she lose all of her positive traits? What negative ones would define her now?
>How would she deal with her guilt? Would she blame herself for not being able to prevent any of this? Or would she blame others, like Team Aqua? Or even start to lash out on her allies, like her Roselia, who inadvertently caused their endless suffering?

SCP-7179 is one interesting example of exploring this concept (Though having big timeskips of mere sextillion years destroys any sense of immersion).

It doesn't have to be an entirely gloomy ending, there's still a - really, REALLY slim - chance of fallers ending up in post-apocalypse Hoenn. Who could have the necessary equipment to locate and rescue her. Granted, there must be VERY good reasons for why anything in that scenario would happens, so it doesn't end up as a ridiculous fanfic just for the sake of a happy ending. But it could be interesting to see how May reacts being back up at the surface, how she realizes they're what's left of the old world, and how she moves forward from that point on (it could be a brand new start, if you manage to ignore your past. Or just conclude your life, as you soul is too worn out).

The horror in the second scenario could be downplayed a bit, as it has the possibility of a "good" ending. Sure, until someone finds her, a couple hundred years might have passed, which is bad on its own, but it's still a conclusion. The first one doesn't have that.

I like the idea of Ingrained May eventually going nuts, lashing out at Roselia and blaming it for their predicament, because it'd be such an easy thing to do. Assuming they can communicate at the bottom of the ocean, there can be conflict where May begs Roselia to let her die, but Roselia refuses. And if May continues to harass and blame Roselia for everything, their relationship can be ruined (pair this with flashbacks of how May met Roselia in the first place, or what made Roselia so loyal to her to begin with). I also like the idea of May getting rescued far in the future, except I don't see her starting a new life afterwards, that's too much of a happy ending. So maybe some people just fish her up and she lives just long enough for everyone to get video proof of it, only to flop over dead on the boat/pier, either because her body/soul is too worn out, or she just gave up upon realizing everyone she cared about is dead.

The final tragedy would be Roselia still being alive (it was rescued with May). May not hanging on for its sake means Roselia's years of keeping its trainer alive were useless, that their relationship didn't endure the tragedy they experienced together. That maybe if Roselia had just let May die to begin with, at least May would've died her friend. But now Roselia is alone, captured by strangers for scientific study.

I guess I want May to be found so she can leave a tangible legacy on future civilization, so her experience has a purpose beyond just navel gazing/torture porn. But to keep the creepypasta depressing, she dies soon after being found, so she'd never experience the fruits of her legacy herself. One of Pokemon's biggest themes is also the relationship between humans and Pokemon, and by couching a lot of this story in the deteriorating bond between May and Roselia, you can end up with something surprisingly "on brand" for an edgy creepypasta. While also making it even more tragic than the base concept.

As for figure making, my stupid kid ass once bought a tiny piece of Sculpey clay, made a shitty figure, baked it in the oven and now the thing is still sitting on my desk decades later. Nothing exploded basically and it's lasted a long time. If you don't want to overthink things by going down a tutorial rabbit hole for weeks, I'd just get some Sculpey or some other cheap clay that can be oven baked and just try it out.

Question for the lore-savy anons here (game ORAS related):

As Kyogre / Groudon was artificially awakened (after Team Aqua / Magma exposed it to its corresponding orb), would its nemesis naturally awake as well?

As far as I can tell, both always appear as a clashing duo, but there was always something naturally occuring that caused them both to wake up (in the anime (Mega evolution special), there's this giant crystal thingy; in Hoenn's lore, there were these energy surges which both desired). During the events of ORAS, there wasn't such a powerful energy source present. Meaning they shouldn't wake up on their own, right? The opposite team also takes on a mediatory stance, showing no interest in waking the other legendary up (at least in the games).

Additionally, would Rayquaza intervene when only one of the two went on a rampage? Or would it be necessary for both Kyogre and Groudon to clash with each other?

We don’t know for sure. The anime tends to scale legendaries down whereas the games scale them up. Old lore associated with them had singular awakenings being worshiped occasionally, which is why you see those special areas being constructed in Johto by Hoenn travelers. Of course in ORAS this has all changed, Kyogre and Groudon are now sort of just monstrous disasters that only want to consume energy.

Based on the paintings in Dewford Cave and how the orbs now function, Fug may not appear at all if only one wakes up.

Any transparent acrylic box works, some hobby stores sell fancier display cases for figures specifically too. The best kinds of covers are both dustproof and waterproof. I'd prioritize getting any kind of cover box before getting more merch, because once dust and shedded skin cells start covering your figures it's annoying to clean them, and you might even damage them in the cleaning process.

Though that's questionable as well. Delta Episode states that Fug cannot go Mega anymore, so it might not appear due to being not powerful enough. Or if it confronts Primal Kyogre / Groudon, it might lose or have a stalemate or win, the lore implies base form Rayquaza managed to take down both Primal Kyogre and Prima Groudon 2000 years ago. So why that Mega evolution in the first place? Idk, the lore has some obvious plotholes (like why is it the meteorite in the player's inventory that restores Fug's Mega ability, when it could have eaten those in the ozone layer, as its Pokédex entry implies?)

I think that the awakening of either Kyogre or Groudon is a metaphor for humanity's meddling having catastrophic consequences for the entire ecosystem, even on a planetary scale. As Rayquaza is the mediatory power among the weather trio, it represents nature's capability to balance these extremes out. there were two event in the past when Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza clashed (we have no data on present time, but we can estimate the power levels). Rayquaza won every time by being more powerful than the other two weather legendaries. Notice that it managed to do this 2000 years ago, WITHOUT Mega evolution. That's what happened 1000 years ago. So the Mega evolution is just a neat bonus to make the fuggin' sky serpent more OP that it already was. Which is ... okay, but weird. Like, you could leave the Mega evolution out, and Fug would still come out on top.

All we know is the Primal forms are some sort of "force of nature" evolutions, and that's about it. As for Fug, it's profits the most from Mega evolution, as it has a special organ that acts as a Mega Stone (mikado organ).
What's even more interesting nothing official, just another theory: The meteorite you give Fug is possibly something more powerful than a Mega Stone. There's this quote by Maxie:

In the manga's storyline, since the events of RSE and the ORAS Delta Episode take place in the same continuity without multiverse stuff, they couldn't/didn't want to retcon the RSE Meteorite key item (which got destroyed during the RS arc and never had multiple forms) like the ORAS games did. So in the ORAS story arc what ultimately makes manga Fug mega evolve, besides a bunch of Key Stones/muh friendship/eating falling meteorites (generic non key item ones), is the Jade Orb. The Jade Orb was introduced in gen 4 games (HGSS) but PokeSpe had made up a "Green Orb" even earlier during its adaptation of RS. So later in the ORAS arc they just conveniently turn the Green Orb into the Jade Orb in some laboratory, so it basically changed forms. So in the manga, the equivalent of the ORAS (game) Meteorite key item is the Jade Orb.

The manga's Jade Orb is supposed to help the user control manga Fug, but this Fug has PTSD and hates literally everyone and just tries to kill them even if they're holding the thing. The only person Fug ever liked in recent history was Aster, to the point Fug tries to follow Aster's ghost or some shit. Fug's attitude only changes when Sapphire finally holds the Jade Orb. Which somehow lets her hear and understand Fug's voice, where previously no one else holding it could do the sane, so they couldn't understand Fug's feelings beyond guessing. So Sapphire ends up being the only person Fug likes at least at first, letting her pet it and smack it and it doesn't care. And then at least for awhile Fug is clearly on the protagonists' side long enough for them to figure some plot shit out. Sapphire may also be the reason why Fug stops trying to kill Ruby.

This is what hints at Sapphire's parallel to Aster, and why most people believe Sapphire's the true Lorekeeper. In the ORAS arc both Ruby and Zinnia compete for the Lorekeeper role, often sabotaging everything and everyone in their way, but what they're actually competing for is first entry into a psych ward. Neither of them have the ability to hear Fug's voice which would impair their ability to bond with it and all that shit. Of course the ORAS arc is full of good ideas being horribly executed so a lot of this is overshadowed by Ruby's constant sperging.

There's also how the RS arc was big on how both Ruby and Sapphire were needed to control the Red and Blue Orbs, so there were 2 chosen ones. Which further emphasizes the existing narrative around Ruby going as far back as RS: that one, his rampant mental illness often just gets in Sapphire's (and everyone else's) way, and two, he's so emotionally dependent on Sapphire that he'll lie to everyone, including her and even himself just to get his way/stay with her.

Anyway Sapphire's eventual bond with Fug also implies she's a 5D chess mentally ill remix of a previous protagonist, Yellow. They both shill the PokeSpe idea of "peak nature powers = having the purest heart/highest empathy lets you understand Pokemon voices". Let’s move on to the meteorite, which I think would greatly improve the plot.

The meteorite is a key item which appears both in RSE and ORAS, but since it’s just a trade item in the former, we will mainly focus on it’s importance in the latter. Briefly put, the meteorite is crucial in restoring Rayquaza’s ability to Mega Evolve, in order to stop a world-ending meteor that’s on course for Earth. We can deduce that tampering with or removing the meteorite could have severe consequences.

Now, what exactly is that meteorite? It’s presented as a chunk of materialized Infinity Energy and seems to exhibit properties of both Key (item description: “it’s shining with seven colors of light”) and Mega Stones (Zinnia: “It’s just like...a Mega Stone”). There’s also this quote by Maxie which tells us that you could turn the meteorite “into a Mega Stone. Even into a Key Stone”. Meaning the meteorite is possibly something more powerful than a Key or Mega Stone. For simplicity’s sake, let’s note down:
>The meteorite is a mysterious, Infinity Energy containing rock.
>It’s something more powerful than a Key or Mega Stone.

Let’s talk about Infinity Energy next, as it’s the driving force that defines what the meteorite is capable of. Infinity Energy is described as the life force of pokemon. In XY, we learn that it can be used to revive the dead or to grant immortality (for example Az and his Floette and perhaps Lysandre as well). Not to mention there’s a link to Xerneas, the embodiment of life. Infinity Energy can be also used as an energy source, as shown in ORAS, where the Devon Corporation uses Infinity Energy as rocket fuel or to power machinery. Let’s remember:
>Infinity Energy is associated with life force and immortality.
>It can be used as a power source.

Another concept worth mentioning are the core mechanics of Mega evolution. This entire gimmick revolves around how the synergy between pokemon and their trainers can unleash immense powers and thus make them stronger. A requirement for Mega evolution is a strong bond between a pokemon and its trainer though the games don’t take that premise too seriously, as you can Mega Evolve any pokemon you just caught. There’s also this motif of wishing. If you recall Hoenn’s lore, Rayquaza’s Mega evolution was the result of the ancient people’s wish to save them from great danger. That means Mega Evolution can be also described as some sort of interplay between a trainer’s wish (“My pokemon should exceed its powers”) and that of a pokemon (“I want to live up to my trainer’s expectations”). If we apply this to Key and Mega Stones, we can conclude:
>It’s the wish and strong bond of a trainer-pokemon-pair that causes Mega Evolution related stones to react.

Now, let’s sum up what we found out:

Add one and one together, sprinkle some “friendship is magic” bullshit over it and voilá:
>Roselia’s Ingrain is now able to defy death.
The meteorite acts as some sort of arcane battery, fueling the roots with Infinity Energy and granting May and Roselia immortality (as long as they’re under the effect of Ingrain, that is). With their bodies being kept alive - no matter how lethal their injuries are - their souls are unable to leave. Severing the roots is futile, as Infinity Energy made them more resilient. So cut them as much as you want, they will immediately grow back. The only way for May and Roselia to escape their fate is being nursed back to full health. Yet this seems impossible, as whenever they get healed, they’re immediately maimed back to the brink of death.

All they can do is endure this agonizing equilibrium between drowning and reanimation, and wait for the meteorite to run out of energy, or hope that someone will eventually find them. Well, as for the latter...

I already mentioned the meteorite is a crucial item in the Delta Episode. With its absence, Rayquaza is unable to Mega Evolve and so cannot destroy the meteor. Unless there are other not mentioned countermeasures, it’s safe to assume the world ended shortly after May and Roselia disappeared.

May wouldn’t even know a meteor struck Earth (except when being hit unconscious by a massive surge, though she would be puzzled about what happened), as it’s only during the Delta Episode that she learns about the meteor’s existence. Meaning her hope for someone coming to their rescue was in vain from the start.

This would also make her entire guilt trip worse. Not only did she failed to stop Team Aqua, but because she wasn’t in the right place at the same time to deliver the meteorite, she indirectly caused another catastrophe to happen. Even though it's not her fault, humanity and many pokemon species are gone.

With that, the plot hole regarding the legendaries’ intervention would be resolved. Rayquaza couldn't stop Primal Kyogre or the meteor, because it wasn't able to Mega Evolve. Groudon couldn't go Primal either, as it wouldn’t have access to the Red Orb (which was also in May’s possession). Most legendaries would be overwhelmed with the entire situation, having to deal with two cataclysmic events in consecutive order. Not to mention the meteor strike being so severe, that even the strongest surviving legendary would have to rest for a long time. Kyogre on the other hand would be unscathed, as it could dive deep down the ocean and use the water masses above as a shield when the meteor hit Earth. With no natural enemies, it would become Earth’s only defining force of nature.

With the context of the loredump your meteorite idea makes sense. I actually forgot the Delta Episode meteor wasn't present in RSE, so the stakes of ORAS actually would be higher assuming the events of the Delta Episode occur not long after May gets Ingrained at the bottom of the sea.

Though in the case of Ingrained I guess the timeline is the Alpha Sapphire one, since Kyogre's the one that wakes up right? Which means in this scenario, the sequence of events is

As for some of the remaining plot holes:

If you want to play up May's innocence, maybe she was actually a shit trainer with an imbalanced team who also couldn't handle water types very well (minus Roselia).

If she had a Surf mon, it was a shitmon like Luvdisc, who she only picked because it was cute. Maybe this May was more interested in contests than battles or the Pokemon League. Also Luvdisc are on the smaller side and have a thin shape, so it doesn't drown in the floods, it's just so incompetent and fucking useless that it gets washed away and buried under rubble faster than it can help its trainer.
As for flying types, similarly her flying mon is small and unevolved like Taillow (since Roselia itself is unevolved). Taillow is so tiny and maybe even underlevelled that it just gets washed away out of pure incompetence.

So if she had a good Surfer like Swampert, maybe she instructed it to rescue her family instead, same goes for her other Pokemon. Even if it left herself with nothing but a tiny ass Roselia. May's heroic efforts to save the people she cared about turning out to be useless in the end (after the meteor kills everyone) becomes the main tragedy.
