I just checked the moon phases it wouldn't have been dark at all easily navigable at night

but without the stars to navigate that's why she walked in the wrong direction her only way of discerning if she's walking in the right direction is waiting till the sun sets in the west but that doesn't help you much if you spent the day walking in the wrong direction
