after a while you will find that using just thin lines might work for the arms and legs, but is unsatisfactory for the torso

at that point you might start pushing your "level of detail" a bit further by approximating the chest and/or hips with a big lumpy form. or perhaps even the whole torso as one giant squishy potato

all the while keeping in mind, that the level of detail, the quality, your current understanding, etc of the foundation of a drawing determines how well you can build further details on top of that

if you find yourself struggling with placing small features, or agonizing about what the exact shape of a muscle is... chances are you are attempting to draw at a "level of detail" above your current skill

the more you practice like this, the better you become at seeing (and measuring with your eyes automatically) and gauging proportions, and sooner or later you will begin to draw more nuanced and more accurate forms because the foundation of your drawing is good enough to make the next steps easier

it is like building a house. if your basement concrete foundation is poor, your walls will be uneven, and this will make your roof leak and collapse
