With the country no longer on the brink of collapse, Brandon could finally work on properly rebuilding and expanding his realm. As a new century dawned, the army and economy had been restored to pre-1490 levels. Thus, in 1507, once spare manpower increased to reasonable amounts, war was declared against the Orcs of Heartgrinder.
Those beasts were allied with the Bloodgrogers in North Castonath; though Derwing had aspirations to reunify the city, he knew that trying to take it so ruthlessly wouldn't end well, so he did not. In the east, one of Marrhold's cores had been stolen by the forsaken Orcs during their war against the count; as such, the two nations had partitioned Heartgrinder before the war even started.
The war itself went splendidly until the very end, when Orcs from the recently proclaimed Barumand decided to show what "Orc Brotherhood" is and declared war against the Heartgrinders themselves. Though they didn't occupy much land, it had still interfered with the Corintari plans.
Of course, Corintar is not only realm in Halann, and their rivals in Bladebreaker were just as if not even more rapidly expanding, and so, Derwing gathered all the esteemed men and women of the land in his court and made a declaration: it was these vile Orcs that had turned their homes into ruin. He'd make sure to be the one to triumphantly march his armies in Steelhyl, and perhaps, one day, the blight could be cleansed from Escann. Every facet of the state should and would be oriented into furthering this goal.
Around 1514, the Bladebreakers declared a brother war against another Orc clan. Derwing saw this as the perfect opportunity and marched into the lands of the Dogeaters, once defended by the Bladebreakers, now defenseless as those were busy elsewhere. The war went smoothly, but so did their rivals' war. Thus, the plans for an immediate war after were delayed. Given the aggressive nature of the BBs, it wouldn't take long for them to be engaged in another war.
