Mechs are literally walking tanks / Mobile SAM and artillery platforms though. The best lore starts with them being fucking farm equipment before war machines (just like fucking tanks.) At least the superior western Mecha and not the Gook Super Robot shit (I have a soft spot for Gundam, sue me.)
