It's a shame cause it lost the feeling that you were piloting this machine with real inertia and weight that you had to manhandle. You had to track things with your eyes and would often lose track of your opponent because of human limits combined with the speed of the game.
Now you're just a weightless turret that can spin 180 degrees instantly, there's no tension to any of the fights your opponent never leaves your field of view.

Dark souls came out in 2011 less then 6 month away from Armored Core V. ACV was harder, more ambitious, more complex game than Dark Souls, probably cost more in development too. Yet Dark Souls drastically outsold it or any previous AC game. From financial standpoint it make total sense to cater to bigger more casual audience.

That's not true, especially with lighter builds. That's why movement is so important, hard lock on will not save you (neither will pad).

funny you say that, AC6 is literally the equivalent of mhworld
everybody (newfags) loved it when it came out and now everybody (oldfags and newfags) hates it for the permanent casualization and sloppification of the series

I'm glad I kept my PS3 Slim from ages ago (still works to this day despite being a 'vulnerable' model) so that I can keep playing the 4th and 5th gen AC games.
RPCS3 is the worst emulator known to man and I am impressed they keep trying to make it work when Xenia JUST WERKS.
Except for Ninja Gaiden 2. No matter how hard I try, the game's audio just cuts out after 4 minutes.

I feel like most emulators basically stop at the 6th gen (not even Xemu is very reliable, but probably because the OGX is a complicated nightmare to begin with) and maybe certain 7th gen handhelds like 3DS and Vita (Citra is a stuttery piece of shit and neither of its later forks fixed issues I have with it and MelonDS is very freeze-happy for me, Vita3K is fine tho)

around 8:25 is when you actually see the feets animation and the robot turning on the foot rather than the whole model just spinning in place

i thought about how in the future, we might get liquid cores reactor that use magnetohydrodynamic generators. basically you turn the uranium into plasma and circulate it in a ring like a particle accelerator, but as it goes through magnets it generates massive amounts of electricity. it would be able to make huge amounts of power in a small package, but people are too scared to turn nuclear fuel into a plasma like that i think. but if you did it, in theory you could make it a super compact reactor for portable vehicles.

MHD reactors were seen as just less efficient than the new-and-shiny nuclear reactors that were being researched in the 70s.
That idea really does sound like it would work, but sadly the electric jew means that people are gonna be scared of anything involving uranium, even though you can literally swim in the reactor's water without any adverse side effects other than burning yourself because it's literally boiling.

does it boil? i thought that was avoided because it would cause voidouts where radiation would just pass through the pockets of bubble, not dissipate heat, and concentrate once more. or i guess that was just a chernobyl thing.

i mean that's literally what they do at nuclear powerplants is that they just use the uranium to boil water to spin a turbine at 60 cycles a second (50 in the EU)
and yes anon, we harnessed the power of the atom to boil some fucking water

>i thought it was avoided because it would cause voidouts
the radiation can pass through water no problem, it's just that they basically cover everything in lead and concrete so that it doesn't leak out, chernobyl was moreso because everything melted together
there's also the fact that the sarcophagus is actually holding back a huge bout of radiation and fumes that could cause an ecological disaster

It has tank controls for a mech that's not supposed to control like a tank. It's clunky. They've been experimenting with different control schemes for 20 years, you'll learn to live with it.

God, imagine how asshurt the mechwarrior fans will be when someone finally makes a canon controls game for them too and they just walk around like people.

The Chernobyl reactor was made using an extremely cheap design, cheaper than anything anyone else used.
>No heat exchanger, water was directly boiled by the uranium fuel
>no metal/concrete containment building for the reactor)
>instead of pressurized water they just used hollow graphite as the maintaining agent for the nuclear chain
>boron control rods were graphite-tipped too, which increases reactor output when inserted
And a whole host of other issues.
The actual cause? Inexperience from new and young recruits, a badly written procedure binder, followed by serious xenon poisoning.
Then the reactor went into a runaway reaction despite the xenon poisoning because they only had like 8 control rods in there. 15 was the minimum, and the reactor had about 220. Said graphite-tipped control rods were suddenly inserted all at once in a SCRAM procedure (basically shove everything in, in a last ditch effort to stop the reactor outright).

Reactor output peaked like flooring the gas pedal in a car. Control rods couldn't move further down. Pressure kept building until it blew a 450 metric ton lid clean off the reactor. Air and steam rushed into the core, reacting with the zirconium jacket of the fuel rods, creating a shitload of flammable hydrogen, causing a massive explosion that released a lot of radioactive material into the atmosphere.

Millennials complain about tons of different things, but generally not controls. In the past videogame controls weren't nearly as standardised, it was perfectly normal for every game to have its own weird bespoke way of doing things so people were perfectly comfortable with it.
For people below a certain age though it seems like they'll absolutely only accept the exact style of controls they got used to growing up. Tank controls for zoomers is like garlic for vampires, it's just bizarre to me. Especially when you consider that just as you say they are perfectly capable of learning complex and unintuitive controls like modern FPSs. I suppose the problem is just that they got used to those controls at such an early age that they don't remember what it was like, and are unwilling to learn for anything else.
>>716221159
AC has changed tons of times, and I like all of the games including the new ones, i'm perfectly used to it, the problem is the other way around. AC games had turn speed as an intentional mechanic, you could build your mech to have more or less of it, all the way back in the 2nd generation you could even add quick boost turn parts to instantly rotate your AC around. It was never "clunky", clunky is just the term zoomers use when a game doesn't match exactly the control scheme that they got used to back when they were a toddler first playing games.
for the most part it's your loss, but I bet it's also part of the reason games are all so homogenous nowadays. Anything non-standard gets shit on as bad before people even try to adapt.

It was tank control gameplay for mechs that are supposed to move fast and smooth. It's clunky. They made all their games clunky as fuck back then and AC stuck with the controls for longer. All their games were like this.

Turn speed is fine. The lack of dual stick was just them doing the same shit over and over like they usually do. I didn't lose out on anything, I've finished all the old gen games I liked. It's also better now.

It's alright, they're the minority. And I'm not even talking about the "actual" AC fags. I'm talking about the self-proclaimed elitists whose only source of pride is beating the game with the old controls, something that's not even remotely impressive, mind you, since anyone can do that. Then AC6 took away their only sense of dignity, and now they're whining about it.

I shouldn't even say 'they'. it's just that one dedicated fag. And the best part? For all his crying, he'll still buy the next AC game the moment it's released.

By the way, Yamamura and Miyazaki weren't even in the AC6 project before Bandai forced From to change directors. Before that, it was the AC5/ACVD's director that was in charge, Naoyuki Takahashi. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2280826/
Unused beta tutorial footage that was found on the PS4 disc actually showed turning speed and walljumps, alongside unused weapon arms.

When Yamamura took over, that's when Bandai poured everything into the marketing budget. From UK bus ads, to trailers before a movie, down to even putting AC6 on fucking weed packets.

Tank controls doesn't mean "clunky". Some games with tank controls can be described as clunky, but AC has never been one of them, it has always been fast paced and fluid. You were just bad at them, and you're having the same reaction that zoomers always have to non-standard controls.
The video linked here >>716220428 is 1st generation, a PS1 game with tank controls and without any analog support, but you'd have to be blind, deaf and dumb to describe that gameplay as clunky or slow or anything of the sort, and that's not even a lightweight build.

You can keep crying that I'm a zoomer and I can't appreciate your slow gay systems or you can learn to deal with the improvements that have been sorely needed, and again, have become standard in the franchise for over 20 years now lol

This is the thread? alright. I think last raven is a mediocre game. The mission structure is great, but half the missions are just short and dull. Almost all fights against other acs fall into 2 categories of "super fast dps monster" or "impossible to die to, who the fuck designed this piece of shit". It has the least amount of variety. The arena is also piss baby easy until the #1 opponent. This is also the only AC game where I could feel how shit the balancing is because of the weird difficulty spikes between missions. And god I wish the part destruction was an actual thing and not something you might see once every 200 hours.
So why is this game touted as the best? Is it just pvp fags? Is it dual stick controls? the difficulty? has the most parts? Is it because its the last game featuring ravens? I genuinely want to know why people like this game over the other games that came before it.

This is typically seen as a really toxic strategy, because it's bad sportmanship, almost like saying "yeah I literally don't want to fight you but I still want to win" to their face.

I think a lot of people started with that "3.5" generation (possibly because it came with analog controls for the first time?), and Last Raven was a big improvement on Nexus.
I personally fully agree with you though. I preferred gen 1 and 2 to anything in gen 3/3.5. My favourite AC game of all is Another Age, but that's admittedly a weird pick few people agree with me on.

Look, I like the franchise, but you guys gotta come to terms with the fact that the franchise never had more technical and strategic depth than stuff like, say
GUNDAM vs. GUNDAM NEXT EXTREME PLUS ver. KA
or Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Vegeta

That is to say, to bemoan the dumbing-down of the franchise is to bemoan the dumbing down of a franchise that was already fucking dumb to begin with.
We will never have the tactical or strategic depth of a combat flight simulator,
nor will we ever compete with the technical skill ceiling (and tactical and strategic depth) of fighting games.
Let's just enjoy our mecha-on-mecha ADHD action and be done with it.

Yamamura is just a shit director and the B team simply sucks.
Attacks and vision tracks perfectly 360 degrees simply because they don't value such aspects of Armored Core as moving to facilitate target acquisition and keeping optimal range for your FCS. Instead, they made stagger and armor and AC6 is entirely centered around those

The wheelchair guy had manual aim plasma cannons, and he was a god at aiming them. Didn't do much of anything because all the missile boater did was overboost cancel (spamming A and D while in overboost to move more efficiently and faster) away at even the slightest bit of HP advantage.
To the point where even the plasma cannons couldn't reach him. It was disgusting.

It's not that Gundam Vs. is hard.
It's that the AC franchise has always had a low skill floor and skill ceiling,
and a lack of technical, tactical, and strategic depth, similar to that of the Gundam Vs. franchise,
and that we can't rightly say otherwise in the face of game genres that can actually clearly display technical, tactical, and strategic depth (combat flight sims and fighting games).
From a position of love, I'm saying that we shouldn't delude ourselves into thinking that the AC franchise, from 1997 until 2023, has been a mountain of gameplay depth, when it's always been a mole hill.

nta and i love all the ac games for different reasons
that "unresponsiveness" or clunkiness (ohhh the clunkiness) that you feel is just a barrier on the way to becoming a good pilot, once you know how to maneuver around those you feel a sense of accomplishment
same thing that happened when i first played resident evil on the psx, games back then and i'd even say 14+ years ago added weight to their controls for a reason, it wasn't "clunky" or "unresponsive" on purpose most of the time
you're piloting a fucking giant mech, should it go as fast as you think it should or should it feel like you actually have to learn to pilot it?
ac6 is one of my favorite games of all time but for different reasons

It was an online event. If it was offline, I guarantee you that it'd first be the event reps telling him to stop fucking doing it, followed soon after by the crowd all collectively boo'ing him.
Not the first time a tournament for a Bandai game went to shit, either. And it wasn't the last.

Half the pvp meta is just trying to get behind each other in a game where the mechs are supposed to be able to spin on a dime. Ironically, like a dark souls backstab.
If you can't ever move like the cutscenes, the control system is a failure. This is why the next game needs combat pirouettes.

As much as it is a dick move, it's best to hate the game, not the player. If they made a time-out with 1 hp adantage a victory condition, no shit players are going to go for it. A time out should just start gradually shrinking the map, or start some other kind of mechanic to force a conflict.

I didn't really mind it because I naturally thought that having a higher number in a weapon skill meant that I'd do better with it. People complained because they kept trying to use daggers when their Short Blade was level 5.

Replaying the old games is making me realize just how much they experimented with the formula in the old gens, and how much most of it fucking sucked. Like gen 1 is early days, soulful, you can forgive a lot of basic errors because it's still one of the best action games on the PS1. Even if floating cubes give me conniptions now.

But then you jump to gen 2 and 3 and they're constantly putting in new, unpopular mechanics and then removing them again because no one liked them. Heat is just awful and it's in half the games to varying levels of severity. They switched to dual stick and just fucking swap back again, why? Almost every gen 2 or 3 game has crippling balance problems, terrible missions, or awful gimmick mechanics and you get to pick at least 2 out of 3 of these to apply.

Honestly I'm coming back out of this with love for 1, 4, and 6, and the rest is just "well I guess there's some good parts?".

It's a great game but the low budget is obvious. The map design on most of the missions is abysmal, just some linear hallway or big rectangle you fight an AC in. "Real" AC in that sense ended with SL.
However, LR has tons of parts and just had a smooth feel to it.

Gen 1 is fun and novel and it's missteps forgivable. Gen 2 and 3 are them iterating on that poorly. Later gens started reinventing the series wholesale and it's what finally got results. The PS2 games were floundering with their mechanics even they clearly didn't want to keep using but also not different enough for the games to be properly distinct from each other.

Fromsoft believed, likely rightfully so, that their modern audience wouldn't be able to handle anything resembling the original control scheme
even with the babby controls people were still bitching about certain encounters being too hard to maneuver around
it also made it easier to develop by just using their recent souls games as a foundation and slathering a mecha skin on it
maybe the next game will give them the confidence to flex their design muscles a little more now that they've proven to the suits that there's interest in the IP but I'm not holding my breath with how safe Fromsoft has been playing things lately
at least the AC situation isn't as hopeless as it is for Kings Field/Shadow Tower fans

If the mechs are fast, spin around, and do cool movements in the cutscenes and then you play the game and suddenly there's a bunch of hard restrictions on how you move that make it impossible to replicate that, what's the point?

Instead the cutscenes should show them constantly turning to face each other across a room while bouncing around and bunnyhopping, if they wanted to sell that as the intention of their game.

To be fair, I bet if you could do a 6 second air combo in NG2, you could get away with it in any fight that didn't have some kind of ranged user. We did have that one clip of some kind of trial mission of Ryu getting dogpiled by 4 guys.
The aspect of NG4 that makes it look like baby food is that yo can dash around the arena and have insane AoE moves that make positioning trivial.

They fly around on rocket packs and swordfight in battletech. The giant samurai mechs with katanas are literally in the game now, you can't pretend to still be ignorant of this.

MW5 is better with mods but it's a game about maximising payout/minimizing losses with retarded AI teammates you can't really control.

You will watch your ally walk up to another mech and get punched until he detonates and cost you six million in repairs. You kind of can't really stop them from doing that sometimes, even with mods.

Actually feels like an actual Mech anime particularly Gundam.

4A is a fun game to feel overpowered zipping around at Mach 10 but it's lousy as a mech simulator everything feels floaty. Guns have 0 weight to them and you might as well be in outer space for how little gravity is weighing you down.

t. Recreated 100 Mobile suits between both games. Also while 6 is better, they're both way better than 5.

MW has jump boosters but that comes at the cost of less weapons because weight is a huge factor in mech design and it is also limited by fuel and will run out mid mission if used too much
AC has no limit on boosting and flying which begs the question of what is being used as propellant if it has no limit and can be used indefinitely so long as the energy limiter isnt crossed

Yeah technically they maybe should, but no-one in the entire world apart from you cares at all because the one non-in-engine cutscene at the start of a game is pretty much just for setting a tone/to use in ads. You might as well complain a movie doesn't like its poster.

I enjoyed AC6 for what it is, but it's also undeniably a less fun game than the previous entries.

Funnily enough, the situation with AC6 is analogous to another AC acronym'd franchise; Ace Combat. Ace Combat has never been a "simulator" series and it never pretended to be one. But the earlier entries like AC3+AC04 still had gravity and inertia implemented into their flight models. So even though the game was unrealistic, it still made you feel like you were flying fighter jets. The basics of dogfighting like energy conservation and stall management were still things you had to consider while playing even if you had 200+ missiles. Then Ace Combat 5 comes out and streamlines the entire flight model so that you never lose speed, can turn on a dime, and don't have to worry about stalling out. The game is still fun, but it lost the "feel" of flying a real fighter jet and stopped being concerned about making vehicular combat game.

Because it would make for inferior gameplay. And no they didn't, they still haven't made the gameplay anything like the cutscenes, you'd probably have to make the game entirely quick-time event based, or at minimum have special "execution" cutscene kills if you wanted to do that. It would be completely shit.

If you hit the boost button with tank legs, you just go upwards instead of sliding around with bipedals, reverse joints or quadrupedals, where with those you'd have to hit it twice in succession in order to start going upwards.
All I was doing is basically just hitting it at the right times and for long enough to keep me off of the floor, because moving in the air in oldgen AC caps you to 80% of your top booster speed. The tank legs I posted have the best top booster speed out of all tank legs (hence why it looks like a race car). It's an intended mechanic they didn't decide to bring back.

It's a different sort of fun. Obviously for a different sort of audience than what the previous games were designed for. The people generally bitching about 6 not being like older titles are those who obsessively play them on emulation or old hardware all the time to begin with, and, honestly, not the target audience specifically. To aim for that specific hyper niche crowd that hadn't seen new games in a literal decade would be suicide for an already niche title that had to follow up Elden Ring blowing the company's reputation to borderline household name extents.

I really don't know about that, even with all the good will in the world I don't really miss much from the previous games, having non dogshit melee alone is something I've been waiting since forever ago, nevermind guns that have an actual identity instead of being simple stat sticks.
I do miss internal weapons, shoulder parts and a couple of other things like ACV arenas and multiplayer in general, but I'll take that over a more balanced core game and some much needed revision of historical AC problems, not to mention AC6's campaign is up there with Silent Line and LR.

Either figure out what works comfortably for you to be able to aim and move, like binding the face buttons in an emulator to be able to pretend it's like an analog stick or shifting about how to use the d-pad and trigger/bumper buttons more efficiently, or just straight up get the True Analog Controls patches. If you try to stick with the series for the rest of the entries, the latter option makes it more in line with Nexus onwards, so that might be up your alley variably.

analog patches break the game balance because the FCS options are not balanced around dual analog controls. even when using the widest FCS parts, games like nexus and LR have smaller FCS viewports to compensate for dual stick controls

I have 2000 hours in GBO2 so far.
Love the damn game, personally, but I can see all of the flaws you mention, and a lot of what I want out of the game is actually QoL to fix a bunch of the problems it has
>get rid of basecamp and replace it with a single menu
>nerfing the absurd grinding for shit like EX hanger, enhancement, monthlies, dailies, etc.
>permanent start dash, 100% crate chance and triple tokens
>get rid of a lot of useless waiting and loading times
>make certain aspects of the game better, such as the gacha, the RT shop
>add an actual PvE mode intead of just swapping it out with recycled content every 4 months
>add the option to fight AI bots in custom lobbies in case there aren't enough people to fill it up
and many other QoL things that I'm honestly, this game is like a geriactric korean MMO without the absurd P2W of a korean MMO, since you can still be a shitter in a suit like Delta Anse or Wing Zero

Still no Code Fairy though, that got relegated to a DLC.
picrel is some cool cheater that was actually hosting boss lobbies where it was brawl match but he played a boss and everyone banded together to beat the shit out of him

at least AC2 up to AC3SL gave you the option to play on Hard mode, giving you lock-boxes that are similar to how Nexus and LR sized them
the PSP releases, because of how badly ported they are (i think they're straight up recreations because they all run at 30FPS and it's obvious what effect that has on the gameplay physics) actually have even tinier lockboxes because of their aspect ratios

So many people whined in GBO1 about zeeks being overpowered. But the truth was that Zeon players used teamwork. Feddies players all suffered Main Character syndrome and would fuck off leaving their back line dead from raids. Also the RPS system was a lot better then. No Heavy Attack, 3 suits with an ability and it was just EXAM and could only be used at low health not activated at will. Supports were scary as they could crack legs easily. My biggest complaints with 1 were the P2P and the fuel system, also it was a lot more P2W heavy

GBO1 was fucking terrible lmao
the RPS system was genuine cancer as there were paid parts that made it even more busted, and Supports were the de-facto kings to the point that when the GP02 released it was just lobbies of nothing but the MLRS until the end of time.
you are right about Zeeks using teamwork, because if there's one thing they could agree on, is that Zeon is cool and Sieg Zeon!
GBO1's netcode makes GBO2 look like Quake 3's dedicated servers.

and I'm not even gonna mention the absurd fucking grinding just to get fucking anything

I ended up on a JP blacklist for the console GBO2. PC playerbase has better aim but they are so scared to push up, so I ended up taking my Marasai and Desert Gelgoog and mopped up people enough to get to A but the chinese players kept getting pissed at me and would start hacking or my net would mysteriously cut out. That's when I had to walk away.

If the only thing you've played in these AC games is the single player, your opinion matters less when talking about build viability.

>the chinese players would start hacking
I've honestly only encountered cheaters 2 times in total in rated matchmaking. One guy who was playing Ideon, and another who was just spamming the RF Gelgoog's heavy stagger rifle.
What this game demands is an extremely rock-solid connection. Luckily I've got fiber gigabit, so I'm good on that front. Doesn't stop chinks from limiting their upload speed on purpose and forfeit some matches so they can boost themselves to S flat or something. Very little have I've encountered someone properly cheating, it's all just chink and jap lagtypes. All that's really changed is just that I learned how to deal with them. Pure skill and proper internet will always dominate, even against laggers. Knew that from the CS1.6 days, cheaters would fucking rage when your ping was 14 and theirs was 60, so your headshots would always go through first before theirs did.

Nah it was fun, rolling an all Zaku 1 or Acguy team with complete strangers and spooking feds with shoulder tackle gangbangs or watching the enemy try to find us as we hid was 10/10. GBO2 lobbies will be held hostage after waiting 20 minutes because on guy doesn't like your choice of suit. I'll still take support being busted because at least they had to shoot versus GBO2 raids being handheld by the devs so hard they ended up buffing the Jesta Shezarr a suit where I ended up 1 shotting a support who was prone with just one HA pre-buff, because red players can only w/m1

>GBO2 lobbies will be held hostage
Just fucking block that guy, leave and requeue. Next time you see him, just requeue. Not a lot of people really do this anymore because it's just faster to do the match, lose, and move on.
>I'll still take support being busted
They are in 650 cost, every other cost is utterly dominated by generals to the point that raids don't really get much of a mention unless they're just as busted themselves. Like I said, Wing Zero took over 700 cost so badly that a lot of raids just straight up don't exist anymore because of how hard it rapes them.
>Jesta Shezzarr Team A
one of the worst 650 native raids nowadays, they buffed it because shitters were bad with it, the unicorn's stats actually went up after it was nerfed purely because shitters stopped playing it

Off the top of my head I had a Gouf Flight type with unlimited boost missiles and had the damage value set to 9999999 because he would just one shot all of our team. Even the enemy team stopped fighting us to shoot at him.
Had a Pixy with the same unlimited boost who looked like he came straight outta souls game with all the evading he was doing
Had one of the boss Mobile armor players in a versus (this was fun though and he died normally without any cheating tools when he ganged up on him)
Had a Pale Rider with unlimited EXAM
Had a Guntank with no reload
but to be fair I quit around the time Unicorn released so they were doing ban waves more and more by then.

it was actually quite refreshing to see a mech game done up like Dolls Nest does it with the exploration and resource management.
while I'm not a fan of lolis (not enough to be a screeching retard, I just prefer hags), finding that robot body made me enjoy the game far more
it's a great game, honestly, but I wish the part balance was a little better alongside just having better controls and actual left/right hands instead of 2 weapons you switch between.
9/10.

Pixy with dodge rolls was made real in one of the situation battles, it was actually enough to make it genuinely viable and scary to fight against.
Most cheaters using MAs don't actually enable anything else, they just want people to fight him.
>Pale Rider with unlimited EXAM
kinda funny to think about that, especially with how bad the sideeffects are once it ends

they did a giant ass banwave in august and september, but from what I heard it caught a lot of innocent players too (it caught my first two accounts that I spent 800 hours on, 600 then 200, but that's because I used a DLC unlocker to get shit for free)
so far my 3rd account has not been banned after about 1270 hours, but I'm not sure how much longer that'll last

Zaku 1 had it's tackle strength removed in 2. It was a little nod to the Paupa Supply Chief in MSG beating the shit out of Amuro. You could kill suits with 2-3 tackles in GBO1. When the desert map was up we'd hide in the canyon part and ambush some poor GM Ground and do pic related
