its not really a point of contention that in 6 you're controlling a souls dude wearing mech bits
its very well obfuscated but you're very clearly not operating a machine the way you were in all the other games
that was one of the central charm points for armored core (and ace combat) for me compared to their peers
the game puts you into a machine and makes you feel like you're operating the machine even if its not going full sim with controls or physics it was more actual control than say star fox and space harrier which 90% of flight games ape
